Government Expenditure and Industrial Development in Nigeria: Long Run and Short Run Dynamics from ARDL Approach

This study estimated the long run and short dynamics between government expenditure and industrial development in Nigeria from 1981 to 2016 with the view to evaluating how the industrial sector has been influenced by variation in government expenditure. The Autoregressive Distribute Lag (ARDL) was the technique applied. We found with dismay that government expenditure has not positively affected industrial development in Nigeria both in long run and short run despite the continuous rise in government expenditure and various policies of the government towards improving industrial performance in Nigeria. Funds allocated for environmental factors of production such as electricity, road, water, communication, etc. should be appropriately utilized. Political officer holders, contractors executing capital projects, people in corridors of powers, etc. who are embroil in misappropriation or embezzlement of public fund should be properly tried and punished if found guilty.

Modal Analysis and Optimization of Typical Parts of 2K-V Reducer

As a new type of high-precision gear transmission mechanism, the transmission accuracy of the 2K-V reducer will be greatly affected by vibration. With the RV110E reducer as the research object, a three-dimensional model of the needle wheel is established. Using the finite element analysis software, the natural frequency and mode shape of the needle wheel are calculated, when it’s under the output condition, then compared with the calculated gear meshing frequency. It is found when the needle wheel is used as an output, the vibration frequency is within the gear meshing frequency range, which is easy to cause resonance, thereby affects the transmission precision of the whole machine. The part of the outer shell of the needle wheel and the oil seal of the skeleton is the weakest and prone to deformation. By adding 6 reinforcing ribs between the needle wheel flange and the outer casing, increasing the flange outer diameter at the same time, the natural frequency can be increased, the deformation concentrated region can be transferred to the outer casing and the reinforcing rib. The connected parts avoid resonance and increase the service life of the needle wheel.

Effect of Cooperative Learning Strategy on Biology Students’ Academic Performance in Senior Secondary School in Rivers State

Aims: This study investigated the effect of cooperative learning strategy on students’ academic performance in biology in Senior Secondary Schools in Rivers State.

Study Design: Quasi-experimental design.

Place and Duration of Study: Port Harcourt, Rivers State, located in the South-South geo-political zone of Nigeria, West Africa.

Methodology: The population consist of 2,150 Senior Secondary three biology students out of which 120 students of intact classes in selected schools formed the sample. Three research questions and three hypotheses guided the study. The instrument used in data collection was Biology Performance Test developed by the researchers. The test items were selected from standardized past questions of Senior School Certificate Examinations conducted by The West African Examinations Council and validated by two lecturers in Science Education and one lecturer in Measurement and Evaluation. The reliability coefficient was determined by test retest method using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient to be 0.78. Mean, standard deviation and t-test at .05 level of significance were used for data analysis.

Results: The results of the study revealed a significant difference in performance between students taught biology with cooperative learning strategy and those taught with conventional lecture method. Students in the experimental group where cooperative learning teaching strategy was adopted scored significantly higher in biology performance test than those in lecture method group. There was no significant difference in performance based on gender (male and female) and school type (public or private).

Conclusion: Cooperative learning strategy is more effective in teaching and enhances biology students’ performance than the conventional lecture method.

Study on the Optimization of Double Parameters of the Air Flow Resistance and the Permeability of Electrospun Nanofiber Nonwovens

In this paper, neural network is used as the tool to study the factors affecting the air flow resistance and the permeability of electrospun nanofiber nonwovens and analyze the major factors affecting the air flow resistance and the permeability such as concentration, distance, voltage and solution filling speed. First, design a five-level orthogonal table for all factors in accordance with the orthogonal experiment theory, select the corresponding parameter values, use polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) to prepare 50 samples on DXES-01 automatic electrostatic spinning machine, train them with neural network model and obtain the precise fitting function. The optimization function is constructed by the idea of two- objective optimization, and its three relative optimal values are calculated, 8.135611, 8.134624, 8.115814. Compared with the experimental results, the average relative error is 12.89 and 8.34. The experimental results show that the error is also ideal.

Posterior Thigh Isometric Force Measurement with Extended Knee

Aims: The establishment of normal values for the hamstring flexibility and isometric posterior thigh force of healthy adults performing standard motor task consisting of acting against a rubber band in the supine position.

Study Design: Observation and ecological.

Place and Duration of Study: During a Sports Medicine three days event (Congreso DePunta) in Uruguay, September 2018.

Methodology: Random samples of 21 men and 16 women practicing different sport activities were asked to have their biomechanics properties measured by DINABANG, which is a novel clinical instrument to guide lower limb rehabilitation. DINABANG measures the force signal during the following specific motor task: in supine position, consists of hip flexion with fully extended knee and with malleolus attached to a rubber band held by the Physical Therapist behind the head of the person, until further effort would lift the person from the mat.

Results: Normal values for body weight specific peak force during isometric effort with extended limb in supine position and malleolus strap tied to an elastic band are (mean ± SD) 1.7 ± 0.4 / 1.9 ± 0.5 N•Kg-1 for men and 2.1 ± 0.5 / 2.3 ± 0.5 N•Kg-1 for women and weak/strong limb respectively. The volunteer-defined flexibility angles of the healthy young populations (21 men and 16 women) were found to be 67.5° ± 6.5° and 77.5°± 9.7° merging the distributions of both lower limbs, strong and weak.

Conclusion: These values will be included in subsequent versions of DINABANG to be used in clinical practice to help avoiding muscle strains by quantifying efforts during rehabilitation under Physical Therapist monitoring. DINABANG allows to safely perform a motor task in the medical office. It can be said that DINABANG is compatible with an ecological approach to rehabilitation.
