Abstract

The Kisan Credit Card (KCC) Scheme is an important institutional mechanism for providing agricultural credit in India, but the practical use of the scheme also depends on farmers’ access to clear and credible information. This descriptive survey examined the information sources used by KCC holders in selected cooperative-bank areas of Chittorgarh and Pratapgarh districts in Southern Rajasthan. Three District Central Cooperative Bank branches were purposively selected on the basis of KCC beneficiary concentration; two Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) were then selected from each branch, and 20 KCC holders were randomly selected from each PACS, giving a total sample of 120 respondents. Mean percent scores (MPS) and ranks were used for descriptive analysis. Overall, 66.67% of respondents had a medium level of information-source use, while 16.67% each were in the low and high categories. Individual contact was the most used broad method (MPS 65.63), followed by institutional contact (64.51), group contact (54.27), and mass contact (52.27). Local leaders (95.00), neighbours (94.58), and friends (93.75) were the leading individual sources; meetings (92.08) led group sources; television (94.17) led mass-media sources; and cooperative societies (98.33) led institutional sources. The findings indicate that trusted interpersonal networks and cooperative-credit institutions remain central to KCC information delivery, while television and social media provide complementary reach. Because the sites were purposively selected, the results should be interpreted as descriptive evidence from the sampled cooperative-bank areas rather than as population estimates for all of Southern Rajasthan.
