Abstract

Assam Millets Mission aims to enhance millet production and consumption in Assam, addressing malnutrition and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. Here, in this study an attempt was made for systematic data driven inquiry of area, production and yield of millets among different states of India with primary focus on state of Assam. From the statistical investigation of area, production and yield of millets it was observed that the area, production and yield of millets haven’t constantly increased or decreased during the study period from 2018-2021. For states like Rajasthan, area under cultivation of millets and production was highest. The study observed that Assam had the second lowest area under millet cultivation, which corresponded to lower production and yield. Further, from pairwise comparison test it was found that there were significant difference among different states of India in accordance with area, production and yield of millets. The study also tried to outlined that in terms of yield of millets, state of Assam has a pairwise significant difference with all the different states of India. From the study, Assam’s low area, production and yield of millets and significant difference with other states of India has tried to draw attention for the possible cause and extraneous factors behind such declination over the period.
